Did not honor Douglas tire wear-out warrantee - Douglas Tires

I bought a pair of Douglas 225 50R 17 tires with a 45,000 wear-out warranty. Both tires wore out at 21,000 miles. I returned to WalMart for replacements and warrantee credit for the defective tires. First I was told by one employee at the Oneonta Tire Center that WalMart does not honor tire warrantees and that I needed to contact Douglas. This is not true, and I returned a few days later with a printout of WalMart's tire wear-out warrantee which would entitle me to a pro-rated discount on replacement tires of more than 50% since the tires wore out at less than half of their warrantied life. The story then changed. One tire, I was told, was prematurely worn out due to over-inflation. I noted that the tires had not been inflated by me as they were less than a year old and were regularly checked during oil changes. Moreover, and more to the point, BOTH tires were completely worn--not just at the center-point. The story then changed again, demanding documentation of tire rotation. I said tires are rotated during normal maintenance visits (oil changes, etc.) by my regular mechanic without charge or documentation as the other set of tires bought at my regular mechanic are rotated during normal maintenance). Moreover, the fact is that whether the tires were rotated or simply remained on the rear axle for 11 months they should not and would not wear out prematurely. Front tires on front-wheel-drive vehicles like mine wear out faster than do rear tires. Bottom line, WalMart would not honor their tire warranty. And BOTH tires were uniformly worn out in the inner, outer and center portions of the tire (would not pass the Lincoln Penny depth test).

Douglas Tires suffer from abnormal wear-out as the many complaints I've found online attest. WalMart has no problem carrying these crappy tires and providing consumers with the false assurance that it stands behind them with its wear-out warrantee when in fact they do not based on my experience.

The WalMart store in Oneonta, NY has lost a loyal customer since its opening. And I will buy another set of Douglas Tires just as soon as hell freezes over.
